In Loving Memory of

James Felix Mithaa Ndung'u

1947 — 2026

Life Story

James Felix Ndung'u Mithaa was born in 1947 at Wa-Mugo Village, Ngooru Sub-location, Tetu Constituency, Nyeri County. He was the son of the late Mithaa Rebania and the late Phyris Wairima, and a loving brother to Eunice Wambui, Nancy Muthoni Maina, Loise Nyawira, Samuel Nderitu, and the late Jane Susan Wanjiku, Martha Wangui, and Naomi Wanjiru.

Raised as a disciplined and respectful child, he began his education at Miagayuini Primary School and later proceeded to Kimathi Secondary School. He began his career at the District Commissioner's (DC) office, where he served diligently as a public servant for many years until his retirement in 2002.

Ndung'u met his beloved wife Esther Wanjiru Mwihia in 1983, and they married in 1984 in accordance with Kikuyu customs. They were blessed with two children: Gibson Mithaa and Joseph Mwihia. He was a loving father-in-law to Loise Mukami and Joan Wanjeri, and a doting grandfather to Emmanuel Ndung'u, Fredrick Njagi, Eli Rebania, Essie Wanjiru, and Moran Mugo.

A Christian from baptism on 29th August 1959 at PCEA Miagayuini Church by Reverend Mishek Kamwaro, he reaffirmed his faith in 2025 and joined PCEA Kihingo Church, where he remained a member until his passing.

Blessed with good health for many years, he began experiencing breathing difficulties in June 2024 and received treatment at Outspan Hospital, Nyeri. After further admissions at Consolata Hospital Mathari, he peacefully passed away during the night of April 12, 2026, at the age of 79.

He is survived by his loving wife, two children, and five grandchildren.

Words spoken in honour of James Felix Mithaa Ndung'u

Sons

Trying to summarize our dad in a few minutes is not easy. Growing up, our relationship was complex. Normal was simply not his thing. If you knew him, you knew he had his way of looking at the world, and loved reading. But going through and down the memory lane the last few days, we've learned that his tough edges were forged by his own life experiences. He did the best he knew how to do, even if his way of showing love was never straightforward. In reflection, we realize that the resilience we have today, the dedication we bring to our own lives, was passed down directly from him. In the end, we are proud to be his sons, and will miss his presence; his focus on his personal affairs; his love for newspaper crosswords, football, and politics; and his intelligent sense of humor. Dad, thank you for the lessons, for the sacrifices, and for the tough love that made us who we are.

Grandchildren

Dear Grandpa, the empty space you have left in our lives will be difficult to fill. You taught us to be strong and to cherish the simple moments. We will never forget the joy you brought into our lives, the wisdom you passed down, and the examples of love you set for us — when you gave us offering on Sundays, bought us the snacks and shared your tea with us when we visited you. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that your memory lives on in our hearts. Thank you for being our hero. We love you.

💔🕊️Losing you, Uncle, has left a pain in my heart that words can hardly explain. It still feels unreal that you are gone. You were such a strong, loving, and kind presence in my life and that of my family, the void you’ve left behind can never truly be filled. You were more than just my uncle—you were like a second father, a mentor, and a true friend. You always had a way of making everything feel better, whether through your wise advice, your warm smile, or your sense of humor that could light up any room. Being around you was a blessing, and I will forever be grateful for every moment we shared. I keep thinking about all the memories we created together—the laughter, the conversations, the lessons you taught me without even trying. You showed me the importance of kindness, patience, and strength. You lived your life with such grace and love, and that is something I will carry with me forever. It hurts so much knowing I won’t hear your voice again or see your smile, but I find comfort in knowing that your love and your spirit will always remain in my heart. You may be gone from this world, but you will never be gone from my life. Your impact is everlasting, and your memory will continue to guide me every single day. Thank you for everything you were and everything you gave. Thank you for loving me, supporting me and my family and believing in me. I hope you knew just how much you meant to me, because you meant the world. Rest peacefully, dear Uncle. Until we meet again, I will hold you close in my heart. You will always be loved, always missed, and never forgotten.
