In Loving Memory of

Robert 'Robo' Safari

1973 — 2026

Life Story

Robert “Robo” Safari lived a life rich in love, creativity, and connection. Born on 1st February 1973, he grew into a man whose presence touched countless lives — as a son, brother, husband, father, mentor, colleague, and friend. His journey ended on 15th April 2026, leaving behind a legacy that continues to shine through the many people he inspired.

Robo was the beloved son of Margaret Safari and the late Richard Safari, and brother to the late Kevin Safari, Anita Safari, Lisa Safari, and Sidi Safari. From childhood, he carried a gentle strength and a quiet confidence. He was the dependable older brother, the one who listened, guided, and showed up with patience and love. His family remembers him as a steady, calming presence — a man who saw the best in people and made everyone feel valued.

A gifted creative, Robo built a remarkable career in Kenya’s film and advertising industry. He began his professional journey at Sound & Pictures, later joining Level One, and eventually becoming the lead editor for Dreamcatcher Productions, Mojo, Cinematic, TPA, HOP, amongst others.

His talent was unmistakable. Known for his impeccable timing, instinctive storytelling, and ability to “fix” even the toughest edits, Robo became the editor that nearly every production house in Nairobi called upon. His fingerprints are quietly embedded in countless commercials, films, and stories that shaped Kenya’s visual landscape.

But Robo was more than a master of his craft — he was a mentor. Many of today’s editors proudly trace their skills back to his guidance. He taught with generosity, humility, and passion, sharing shortcuts, techniques, and the deeper art of storytelling. His influence helped build one of the strongest pools of editing talent in the country.

Music was another of Robo’s great loves. He played bass guitar with Flashpoint, carrying the rhythm that moved audiences and bandmates alike. Later, he mentored the Calabash Band, nurturing young musicians who flourished under his care. His love for music was woven into his life — from Sunday performances to late‑night rehearsals, to the joy he found in sharing music with his children.

Family was the heart of Robo’s world. He was a devoted husband to Caroline Wangari Safari, and a loving father to Jason, Jayden, Jake Kevin, and Isabelle Wamboi. His children were his pride and joy, and he poured his energy into raising them with kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support. His co‑parenting with Shiko, Jason’s mother, was a testament to his maturity and commitment to family. To his children, he was a guide, a protector, and a constant source of love.

Robo’s life was also filled with simple joys — cheering for Arsenal with passionate optimism, sharing laughter with friends, cooking for family, decorating the Christmas tree each year, and creating memories that now live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He was disciplined and strong, even earning a black belt in karate, a reflection of his focus and quiet determination.

Those who knew Robo will remember his calm presence, his easy smile, his generosity, and the way he made people feel seen and understood. He lived not for show, but for meaning — for family, for friendship, for creativity, and for the moments that truly matter.

Though his passing leaves a deep void, his legacy endures in the lives he touched, the stories he shaped, the music he loved, and the family he cherished. Robert “Robo” Safari will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated.

Rest well, Robo. Your light continues to shine.

Words spoken in honour of Robert 'Robo' Safari

Family

Firstly we The Safari family would like to extend our gratitude and love and say a very huge thank you to you all for rallying behind our Mom, Carol, Jason, Jayden, Jake, Sidi, Anita and I. We have put some few words to say goodbye to our beloved brother Robert “Robo” Safari whom joined our family and forever made it complete. So we say these words with heavy hearts, to celebrate a man that stood tall, loved unconditionally and guided with love and light. We started our forever family with Robo as our eldest fearless leader. He was beloved son of Margaret Safari and the late Richard Safari, sibling and best friend to the late Kevin Safari, Anita Safari, Lisa Safari and Sidi Safari. Beloved Nephew to Hon. Betty Tett, the late William Tett, Aunty Mary, Aunty Jenny Mkubwa, cousin to Sheila Tett, Maureen Tett and the late Ken Tett and the late Eddie Tett, Vincent Tabu, Maureen Tabu and Kelvin Tabu. He had a close relationship with each of his siblings. Our brother was someone you could always depend on, reliable, always there with a leaning ear to listen and a heart that knew no bounds. He brought magic back into our lives, cutting down our Christmas tree and decorating it each year with Robo was a special time we all looked forward to. Cooking us breakfast, playing games with us, as we got older teaching us to drive and all about boys. Our mother could not be prouder of Robert and his achievements, beyond school years, electrical school (which very much came in handy) being in Flash point, it was how he loved his family and his boys, watching him grow and becoming a Father. Robo joined Flashpoint as the one who carried their rythm on the lead bass. Just like the deep vibration of those bass strings his playing moved something in you. He brought the music to life and with his band flashpoint, they brought the magic of music to so many! Later he mentored the band Calabash we remember going to Sunday performances at jacaranda hotel, watching the band at Galileo and tuna tree in our early teenage years. Dana, Al, Mercy Myra, The late Tony Williams, Edwin John and Melo, all flourished under his tutilage and built lasting relationships with everyone he touched. Family was his top priority in life. He was the most amazing father to his first born Jason Safari whom he shared with Shiko. Their co-parenting was, as the youth say Goals! Their friendship with each other and their love for Jason rivalled any distance. Robert went on to marry the love of his life Caroline (Caro as we all know her by) and became a proud and loving father to Isabelle Wamboi along with having two more sons with Caro, Jayden and his youngest Jake. He doted on them all and worked tirelessly to bring that special brand of love and nurturing that seemed to be his superpower. Robert loved his family and that was evident in the way he lived everyday. To his siblings, extended family and close knit friend group Robo was a man of great wisdom and patience. He saw a person’s heart and not their faults. To his family, He saw the world in a kind of optimism that is rare to find. A true Gem. Our very own unicorn. They say energy never dies it can only be transformed from one form to another and we know that love so pure is lasting. His legacy will be one of unconditional kindness and love and in the beautiful young men he raised his energy will continue to transform lives. The man he was is evidenced by the over pouring of love that the family have seen demonstrated by his friends and colleagues and all of us who now feel the very large void he left behind. Let that void be filled with the memory of his laughter, his manic love for Arsenal, his humor and his unmatched kindness. Forever in our hearts, we say until we meet again may your light shine brighter beloved.
